How to describe my current living situation? Serene? Peaceful? Ideal in every way? Triple blessed by heaven? Or shall it be called Boring?
Fully 99.5% of people in the world would change places with me in a heartbeat. Without question!
Consider: The cool A/C at the library. The abundance of riches at the supermarket (or in my fridge) .A Merlot or two with dinner. Serenity. Safety. An uncrowded swimming pool. Unlimited Mozart and Brahms on NPR. Two pairs of tan shorts (Yes TWO) and 500 T-shirts from former travels. Not a care in the world...except maybe the date of my next transatlantic cruise. It's all quite heavenly y'see...
Or is it Boring?
I have old friends who like me, and contact me regularly.
I have old friends who dislike me and don't contact me at all. Each is a blessing.
So is it merely human frailty that makes me look a gift horse in the mouth? Why question heaven's largesse at all? Why not just wallow in the luxury that is my current status in life?
Oh yes, to complete the list of blessings did I mention that at my advanced age the absence of aches or pains or infirmities or mental diminutions? I can still complete the Wall St. Journal crossword puzzle in 25 to 30 minutes. Try THAT ONE smarty. (Oopps, sorry to get boastful...it comes over me sometimes.
