What Will Be??
Even as a kid I remember my mother fretting about the future...worried endlessly about what sort of world she would be leaving to her beloved children and more importantly, to her grandchildren.
After reading the daily newspaper or listening to Walter Winchell on the radio, she would sigh, "Vuss vet zien?" (What will be?) A rhetorical question fraught with gloom and doom.
Back then being young I was optimistic, capable, and completely positive facing the future. What choice did I have...there was NO trust fund to rely on.
But now, I see her point. I share her trepidation. Amid constant reports of Global Warming, climate change, drought, population growth, starvation, conflict over food.
All too real. All too tangible. And what could I possibly do to insulate my grandkids from all this travail? "What will be? indeed.
